Features of Luggage

February 12th, 2009 by admin

The first feature of concern should be the durability of the bags. Will they survive the rough handling when traveling? Will the locks hold? Durability is important whether you are a recreational or frequent traveler.

Expandable luggage is great for short trips and will allow you to pack more in one bag. They can be great carry on bags that will hold your various needs of the next twenty-four hours or so. They are great to have if you are planning on bringing back souvenirs.

Other features include laptop compatibility, luggage with pull bars, luggage with telescoping handles, and luggage with wheels. There is upright luggage and horizontal luggage that will meet different needs. Consider the weight of the luggage itself because it will add to the weight allowance of the traveling company.

Including water resistant bags is great if you will be swimming while traveling as they will hold wet bathing suits and towels nicely without saturating other items. Scratch resistant luggage will retain its initial appearance for a much longer time.

Adjustable or removable outer straps help identify your luggage and prevent it from popping it open. Some luggage have inner elastic straps to hold items in place. Toiletry cases are included in some luggage sets as well as totes that will hold your books or other traveling activities. Free luggage tags are sometimes available free with your luggage.

Consider the material of the luggage. Sturdy nylon fabric such as the stuff gym bags and backpacks are made. This fabric can also be waterproof. The hard frames of some luggage take the brutal handling in baggage areas better than soft luggage might be. Look for the features you want and you will likely find them.

Think Condo, Think Value

February 11th, 2009 by admin

When planning your vacation to Disney World, Orlando you should know that there is an alternative to either the hotel room or villa.

More and more travellers are enjoying the flexibility, and value, offered by a Condo or Townhouse rentals.

So what is a Condo?

A Condo is a full home on one level, joined together with other Condos to form larger buildings. The Condo is still very private; you can have as little or much contact with your neighbours as you want.

Condos come in a variety of sizes from one-bedroom units to four bedroom homes. They are not small, on average a three bedroom Condo will offer you over 1300 sq.ft. of living space (figures taken as an average of all three bedroom Condos listed on TheBigCondoList.com). A Condo will come fully equipped with everything you would expect to find in a home including furniture, bedding, towels, eating and cooking utensils, dishwasher, washer/dryer, TV, DVD/VCR players, and sometimes they will even have a Playstation/Xbox. Because these homes are privately owned, they will all come with a personal touch making them feel a little special.

A Townhouse is generally the same; the only difference is they are normally built over two floors, with the bedrooms upstairs, whereas a Condo is all on one level.

Condo and Townhouse vacation homes are set in communities. Although each vacation home is individually owned, the owners are all jointly responsible for the upkeep of the community and the facilities they provide.

These communities are like luxury resorts. They offer you facilities like swimming pools, hot tubs, gyms, tennis courts, games rooms and the list just keeps on going. All these resort facilities are yours to use when you are staying in a vacation Condo or Townhouse. This is an automatic saving over a villa, you will not need to pay for pool heat, the pool is already heated for you. The costs for pool heating vary, but is usually around $20-$30 per day. That’s quite a saving.

Many feel that the communal pool is a safer option over a private pool, allowing you to control when your children visit the pool. Children love to play around with others in their own age groups – and this give Mum and Dad a chance to catch some sunshine and relax poolside without having to constantly watch and/or entertain the kids. Mums & Dads always tire of the water before the kids do, while the kids are playing you can relax a little, it can be a bit much to be constantly on pool duty in a pool home. The communal aspect means you too can get to know others and make new friends.

A Condo or Townhouse offers you value for money. When renting a hotel room you are getting on average 200 sq.ft. and paying a per person rate. If there are more than two people in your party you then need two rooms, and you will pay a premium to have connecting rooms. When you rent a Condo or Townhouse you pay for the house, and even then the rates are often lower than a single hotel room, and you are getting a living room, a kitchen, and dining room and however many bedrooms you need.

A Condo or Townhouse also means flexibility. Come and go when you want. Eat in or eat out, all Condos have a fully fitted kitchen allowing you to prepare meals in, which can save you even more money. When the children go to bed, the adults can sit in front of the TV and relax. You can all get together around the table to have breakfast together and chat about your day’s plans. This is family friendly flexibility that you will never find in a hotel.

So how do I book a Condo?

Well, you can use travel companies or management companies. But if you really want to grab a bargain and save even more money, book direct with the owner. This way you are cutting out the middlemen. This saves both you and the homeowner money. When booking direct with the owner they will quote you their direct prices, they know they do not have to pay any commission to the management company, so they will offer you the lowest price available. Visit a Condo and Townhouse specialist site such as TheBigCondoList.com that lists Condo and Townhouse vacation rentals available directly from the owner.

You can actually see the houses available, and send out requests to the owners who will then provide you with their best prices, then all you need to do is select which one you want to book.

So, next time you are planning a Disney World Vacation, think about a Condo, you will not be disappointed.

Together with my wife we own and operate TheBigCondoList.com which specilises in Disney Condo and townhouse rentals by owner. All homes listed a privately owned and available to rent direclty from the owners. We also provide a free vacation planning forum at ForumOrlando.com which offers hints, tips and advice to anyone planning a Disney World, Orlando vacation.

Autumn in Del Mar is the Best Time to Vacation

February 8th, 2009 by admin

Most people associate the beach with summer, and Southern California’s coastal gem, Del Mar, is no exception. Summer is when the crowds come: school’s out, the Del Mar Fair starts in mid-June and shortly after the fair ends, the horses run at the world-famous Del Mar Racetrack. The thoroughbred horse racing season begins in mid July and goes through early September.

The hotels and motels are sold out, beach rentals are scarce and expensive, the restaurants have one hour-plus waits, and the beach and roads are crowded. There is a bit of a hectic pace during the summer in this normally laid back town, located just north of La Jolla.

However, the locals are patient. They know that after the race track closes, the tourists, students and race fans leave, the town returns to that kicked-back pace. But they also know that some of the best beach weather of the year begins then.

Fall in Del Mar is the perfect time to vacation – whether for a week at a beach rental, or a long, luxurious weekend at one of the many nearby resorts in Del Mar or La Jolla. The days are still long and warm, the water temperature is still in the high low 70’s or high 60’s, and the they have the beach practically to themselves.

Surfers eagerly await the fall because the swells arrive from the south, often generated by storms and hurricanes thousands of miles away. When they arrive, the waves are large and exceptional for surfing.

For the vacationer, beach rentals are a bit easier to find and certainly less pricey, although students from nearby UCSD snap up long term rentals for the school year, if they can afford the pricey Del Mar rents. The hotels and motels have plenty of vacancies and of course the restaurants are eager to show off their cuisine with short waits for tables.

The fall is Del Mar is about the best time for a quiet vacation or a quick getaway.

Getting there is pretty easy. Del Mar is just about 90 minutes south of Los Angeles by car, and about 20 minutes north of San Diego. It is also served by Amtrak and the Coaster, a local rail service from Oceanside to San Diego. San Diego International Airport is also just minutes south.

Resorts such as L’Auberge in Del Mar and The Lodge at Torrey Pines will pamper you in style. Excellent restaurants are minutes away. Jake’s, which is the only Del Mar restaurant on the beach in Del Mar, is one of the favorites. Others include the Pacifica Grill in the Del Mar Plaza on 15th Street, and for a latin cuisine, Epazote’s is nearby.

Speaking of the Plaza, some of the best shopping around can be found here at the center of Del Mar.

JP McDermott spent most of his youth in Del Mar and plans on returning once his daughter is off to college. For more information on vacationing in Del Mar, check out www.del-mar-guide.com.

When Payment Matters

February 8th, 2009 by admin

When everything’s settled after the seller has posted a product in eBay, there’s only one thing that needs to be accomplished: payment mode.

When selling something, the most important thing a seller must consider is how he or she shall be paid. This is a very risky decision since a lot of fraudulent activities in eBay involve payment.

PAYPAL

This is the most common way of paying a seller on eBay.

PayPal is an online business that facilitates the transaction of transferring a monetary amount between a merchant account and an online buyer. Because it is electronic, it is basically a paperless transaction.

It was in October 2002 when PayPal was purchased by eBay. Before, PayPal was just a choice of most eBay users, whether it’s a buyer or a seller. The other choices that time involves eBay’s subordinate, BillPoint.

However, due to a relative percentage of PayPal, being the most widely used mode of payment by almost fifty percent of eBay buyers and sellers, eBay had eventually phased out BillPoint and concentrate more on PayPal.

Right now, there is another company that is in the same line of business like PayPal. This competitor is known as BidPay. There had been reports that a number of eBay buyers and sellers resort to this kind of payment scheme.

ESCROW

For high-priced items, eBay recommends that the method of payment should be with an eBay approved escrow service like the one that can be found at www.escrow.com

Buyers and sellers should take note that there are fake escrow companies lurking in eBay. Hence, it’s important to detect if the escrow company that the buyer and the seller deals with is approved by eBay.

EBay recommends that sellers, as well as buyers, should only contact eBay approved escrow companies like escrow.com for Canada, U’.S., and U.K. eBay users; escrowaustralia.com.au for eBay users in Australia; escrow-europia.com for eBay users in Spain and Italy; ebay.iloxx.de for German eBay users; and tripledeal.com for eBay users in France, Netherlands, and Belgium.

EBay strongly warns its buyers and sellers not to do transaction concerning wire transfers like the Western Union. This is a very unsafe mode of payment because it does not guarantee the concerned person that the process will be smooth.

So, it’s best for every seller and buyer on eBay to opt for the mentioned payment methods so as to be sure of an honest and reliable business transaction. Besides, eBay will protect the sellers and buyers if the transactions were made under these approved eBay mode of payment.

February 3rd, 2009 by admin

When many people think of travelling to see a sports event their mental images are often tarnished by traffic jams, long journeys and suspect sandwiches from motorway service stations. In fact if you add into the mix your team of choice getting thumped then your day out can turn into an extremely miserable one!

While you will never be able to guarantee the outcome of the event, there are several measures you can take to make sure you enjoy your trip away – not least slowing things down and taking your time!

The fact is long drives to and from sporting events are no fun at all. By taking your time and spending the weekend in a nearby hotel you can walk to and from an event while soaking up the ambience. The next few months in the UK has some excellent sporting events coming up that are perfect to turn into a relaxing weekend away. Perhaps one of the most exciting events of the year in terms of atmosphere is the Rugby Six Nations tournament.

Next years match between Scotland and England has all the elements for an exciting weekend away. Hosted in Scotland’s capital Edinburgh, the whole city comes alive during match weekends with a friendly atmosphere welcoming all their guests (yes even the English!).

There is a fantastic vibe in the majestic Murrayfield stadium throughout the match and the post match buzz in all of the city’s pubs is always entertaining. Combine this sporting activity with everything else the beautiful city of Edinburgh has to offer and there is all the ingredients to an excellent weekend away. For further details of fixtures try http://www.six-nations-rugby.co.uk.

Another potential weekend away for sports fans is the Cheltenham Festival. Cheltenham Racecourse, the home of National Hunt Racing, plays host to the world’s steeplechase elite during its annual National Hunt Festival held in March. Lasting four days the highlight of the festival is the famous Gold Cup which is one of the most exciting horse races anywhere in the world.

Attracting horses, trainers and jockeys from all over Britain, Ireland and France, an exciting international flavour permeates the elegant Spa town of Cheltenham for the duration of the event. With a number of excellent hotels in the area the Festival is guaranteed to be a wonderful short break for all those who enjoy the excitement and glamour of international horse racing.

By combining your sporting event of choice with a weekends hotel accommodation you can truly relax and enjoy the event. Specialist travel companies such as http://www.superbreak.com have a number of accommodation + ticket packages for many top sporting events across the UK. Tofino, BC Canada: Beach Paradise on Canada’s “Big Island”

February 3rd, 2009 by admin

British Columbia, on the west coast of Canada is quickly becoming one of the fastest growing tourism hotspots in North America. The reason, like so many other tourism Meccas, is landscape. In BC you will find high desert, mountains, long sandy beaches, lush rainforest, vast glaciers and everything in-between. You’ve likely heard of British Columbia, but there’s a good chance that you haven’t heard about the province’s fastest growing tourism destination: Tofino BC. Located on the west coast of “Canada’s Big Island”, Tofino is home to long sandy beaches, world-class hotels, restaurants, and some pretty good surfing too.

Tofino gained fame in the early 90’s when logging in the region’s old-growth forests turned many of the locals into action-taking environmentalists. The logging continued and the locals grew more and more upset, and before anyone knew what happened, the Clayoquot Sound Blockade was the largest non-violent act of civil disobedience in Canadian history.

All of this media attention brought visitors to Tofino – lots of visitors. Today more than 1 million tourists pass through Tofino in a year. All of these people are crammed into a town with a year-round population of about 1700.

These people are all coming to Tofino to experience the region’s breathtaking scenery and the long, sandy beaches. Tofino’s visitors are usually the type of traveler that takes advantage of the amazing natural resources that abound in the Clayoquot Sound region. Sea kayaking is very popular, as is surfing, walking the long sandy beaches, and fishing for the huge salmon that abound in the near-shore waters.

Of all the places in BC to become a tourism Mecca, Tofino has to be one of the most unlikely. Situated at the end of a remote peninsula, it’s almost comical that some many folks flock here on a yearly basis. But once you’ve arrived in Tofino and experienced the landscape, oceanscape and the relaxed coastal way of life, you’ll probably be planning your next trip back before you leave.
