As is the case with most hypnosis, the goal of black ops hypnosis is to place someone into a trance state, and Underground Hypnosis helps do exactly that. Depth of the trance state induced is determined by many elements, in particular hypnotist’s ability and even personality.

As you first induce trance, the subject’s smaller muscles will uncramp at their unconscious decision. They feel sleepy. Many subjects also notice their eyelids seem heavier. Slip deeper and larger muscles declench too, chief among them the shoulders and digits – and quite often, this takes very little time. With a little more work, the subject falls deeply enough into the trance that their senses exclusively perceive the hypnotist. And as you reach this depth, hypnotic suggestion comes in, establishing a direct line to the unconscious mind. The trance state can deepen even further until the hypnotized person becomes capable of forgetting given concepts and lose sensation in different parts of their body if asked.

Hallucinations slowly manifest the deeper they go into trance, and eventually the subject will encounter a state reminiscent of that experienced under general anesthetic. In circumstances in which anesthesia is considered, for whatever reason, unwise, hypnosis has from time to time been introduced as an alternative.
