Sometimes daily horoscopes can be very accurate and other times it can be utter failure. Predicting the future is not that easy. While some people strongly believe in it some others take it as fun. Horoscopes are based on your zodiac signs. Have you ever thought what the origin of horoscope is? It is Astrology. Astrology is much more than the horoscope we see on newspapers and magazines.
Many of us refer to Astrology as a new age subject. But in reality it is just the opposite. It is actually an ancient science predating astronomy as well as psychology. Astrology was a popular subject studied all over the world. The interaction among planets and stars is the main theme of Astrology. It is based on a very complicated mathematical calculation.
Astrology dates back to 1645 BC, Babylon and the earliest horoscope dates back to 410 BC. Astrology was not only practiced in Babylon. But the origin of this science includes many cultures and locations. One of the most famous places where calendar science and sophisticated timekeeping were originated was Egypt. Many Astrological and Astronomical texts were written by Ptolemy of Greece. The Roman people also practiced Astrology. In fact two Roman emperors formulated laws, fought wars and counselled citizens based on the tough calculation and the interactions of stars.
With the advent of Renaissance more and more people become literate. This was the time when Astrological information was published. Some of the notable figures took interest in Astrology. The founder of modern science Galileo and Copernicus were both practicing astrologers.Astrology has always shared a strong relationship with science. But Astrology started loosing popularity when the myriad predictions about the 1524 great conjunction did not come true.
Astrology was no more as popular as before some people still practiced it, especially in England in the 1700s and 1800s.It regained its lost popularity in 1930 when Princess Margaret was born. The London Sunday Express published an astrological profile of the new born princess. This was the time when the newspapers introduced the daily horoscope column.
