According to a new report from the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), most of the senior-level construction professionals are opposed to the idea that recession has brought down the levels of compliance to health and safety regulations in their company.
Out of over 1200 respondents who were a part of the survey, around 12% said that the expenditure on health and safety in their organizations has decreased, while a significant part of the sample, i.e. 35.7%, said that their organizations have increased expenditure on health and safety as well as training of the employees.
Around 25% of the respondents agreed that their companies do not put health and safety as a top priority issue, though a majority of respondents i.e. 69%, said that their organizations take health and safety issues very seriously.
According to more than 44% respondents, health and safety is not overregulated by HSE, though some respondents said that HSE needs to be more involved in matters related to advising, supporting and site visits, especially for smaller concerns. However, some respondents also thought that HSE does not have enough resources.
When asked for ways for improving health and safety in the industry, most of the respondents said that more profound training and more awareness among the employees are essential.
