Dozens keen snowboarders will before long be searching for their ski gear and shooting away seeking the biggest snow conditions. And without doubt the impact of your carbon footprint will be close to as far down the list of vacation essentials as a Christmas tree after the Christmas holidays. Merely last year, a slow snow hit the headlines and holidaymakers were panic stricken about the smattering of snow melting nearly as soon as they landed.
Skiing business Chalet 1802, located at the bottom of Mount Blanc in Chamonix village in the French Alps, is one of the first independent firms to go carbon negative and afford skiers an environmentally friendly alternative when reserving their skiing trip. Chalet 1802 owner Graeghamm said: Last season was quite a surprise with the warmest winter in fifty five years in Europe. Snowboarding resorts like Serre Chevalier, Portes du Soleil and Portes du Soleil lacked clients. It was mild and the snowfall didnt settle so much of the early snowboarding season in the mountains was uneven. We determined to go carbon neutral to assist in the preservation the snowboarding resort.
Graeghamm said: We are not seeking to dictate to holiday makers only I consider it is of import to provide the clients the alternative without augmenting the cost of the skiing holiday. If the client book with us and visits our skiing chalet they can more than off set their carbon output and we take in the additional costs. Naturally we still have a sauna and a hot tub – holiday makers require opulence but not at the expense of the environs, so we considered ways of reducing the results of a guest driving over here for a snowboarding holiday.”
Chalet 1802 have also linked up with organisation Climate Care, who attacks climate change by providing carbon dioxide reductions for individuals and businesses.
