Vivek Kundra the Starting Federal CIO of the United States

Appointed by the Obama Administration as the first Federal CIO in the nation, Vivek Kundra is reaching to freshen up IT in the public sector. His past efforts in Information Technology earned him credit from InfoWorld as the 2008 IT Executive of the Year and he was recently named Chief of the Year by Information Week. With prior expertise as CTO for Washington, D.C., Vivek Kundra has the experience to meet the Information Technology challenges that are put before him.
Vivek Kundra has a plan for the Federal government relating to IT. He strives to make government information readily obtainable to the nation’s citizens as part of the Federal Government Transparency policy. This applies to data that is not private or restricted for national security purposes. He also works to make sure the government does not overspend on IT and that technology employed makes different government agencies work expeditiously. His prior expertise as CTO for Washington, D.C. poised Vivek Kundra well for his current role.
Born in Delhi, India, Vivek Kundra came to Gaithersburg, Maryland when he was 11 years of age. His college years saw him going to the University of Maryland. Upon majoring in Psychology and earning his Masters from Maryland in Information Technology, he continued to hold different positions. He held several leadership positions in the private sector and performed consulting work with SAIC. He also functioned as Information Technology Director for Arlington County, Virginia and Assistant Secretary of Trade and Commerce in Governor Tim Kaine’s cabinet.
From cloud computing initiatives to holding government contractors responsible for the services they provide, Vivek Kundra works to make smart use of the IT budget he controls. He knows that making the correctly IT choices that embrace new mediums and technological advances lend to effective operations in government agencies. His goal is an IT infrastructure that operates within budget parameters, while delivering extraordinary value to U. S. citizens.
