Winter Holidays for the Environmentally Aware Skier

Many snowboarders will before long be dusting down their ski equipment and dashing forth in search of the largest snowfall. And beyond any doubt the affect from our carbon footprint will be nearly as far down the list of holiday to dos as a Christmas cracker after the Christmas vacation. Merely last Christmas, a slow snowfall was in the headlines and tourists were panicky about the bits of snow melting almost as soon as they put down.
Ski holiday organisation Chalet 1802, based at the base of Monte Bianco in Chamonix town in the French Alps, is one of the only independent firms to go carbon negative and afford skiers an environmentally friendly selection whilst organising their skiing holidays. Chalet1802 founder Gearoid stated: Last winter was a bit of a surprise with the hottest wintertime in 55 yrs in the French Alps. Snowboarding resorts for example Megeve, La Mongie and Flegere has difficulty. It was mild and the snowfall didnt last so a lot of the early skiing season in the French Alps was limited. We decided to become carbon negative to assist in the preservation the ski resort.
Gearoid said: We are not attempting to dictate to holiday makers but I consider it is important to give the guests the selection without augmenting the price of the vacation. When they book with us and holidays in our skiing chalet they can further off set their carbon output and we soak up the other costs. Of course we still have a sauna and a hot tub – people require lavishness but not at the expense of the alps mountains, so we viewed means of diminishing the affect of a client driving over here for a ski holiday.”
The company have also linked up with charity Climate Care, which tackles climate change by providing C02 deductions on behalf of people and companies.
